Centerless grinder operating methods
Centerless grinder operating methods
Centerless grinding method can generally be divided into three types: through-feed grinding (vertical grinding), cut-in grinding (horizontal grinding) and end-feed grinding.
1. Through-feed grinding
The so-called through-feed grinding means that the workpiece can
continuously pass the entire grinding area during grinding. According to
the shapes of the grinding surface, the grinding zones that the
workpieces are fed through are also varied.
2. Cut-in grinding
In the work process, the grinding method in which the workpieces are
fed only in the radial direction of the grinding wheel is called cut-in
grinding.
3. End-feed grinding
End-feed grinding is a type of through-feed grinding. The workpieces
make “passing-through” movement during grinding, but they do not
completely pass through the grinding zone; rather, a stopper is used for
limiting the end position of the axial movement of the workpieces.
The main characteristics of these three grinding methods are shown in the following table:
Centerless grinding method | Applicable objects | Features |
Through-feed | shafts, bars, bearing rings, general rollers, axis piston pins, cylindrical spool valves, needle rollers, and so on. | high productivity, simple workpiece surface shape. |
Cut-in | Stepped shafts, rollers, outer ring surface with convex shoulders. | high productivity, complex workpiece surface shape. |
End-feed | Stepped shaft, taper pins, tapered rollers and so on. | low productivity, complex workpiece surface shape. |
