Basic principles of centerless grinding:
Centerless grinding method is a high- productivity precision machining, which is carried out on centerless grinder, inner and outer cylindrical grinders with centerless fixtures (such as electromagnetic centerless jig). Grinding the outer surface of the workpiece on outer cylindrical centerless grinders is called centerless cylindrical grinding (or cylindrical centerless grinding); grinding inner and outer surfaces on the inner outer grinders of grinders with centerless fixtures is called the support type centerless grinding. Centerless outer cylindrical grinding and centerless supporting type grinding are together referred to as centerless grinding.
Characteristics of centerless grinding:
1. The workpiece center is not fixed. This is the unique feature of centerless grinding.
2. Workpiece self-positioning. The grinding surface of workpieces is also the positioning surface; its original error and the error after grinding will be reflected as the positioning error, thus affecting the shape error near the workpiece grinding point. According to this feature, it was considered that as far as roundness and waviness are concerned, centerless grinding is less precise than centered grinding, which is incorrect, because after the geometric layout is reasonably chosen, the centerless grinding can actively form cycles.
3. The movement of workpieces is jointly controlled by the grinding wheel, guide wheel and the pallet. The stability of the movement of workpieces depends not only on the kinematic chain of the machine tool, but also on the actual situations (such as workpiece shape, weight, the materials of the guide wheel and pallet, surface condition, and machine form) of the workpiece, the guide wheel and the pallet, and the grinding parameters, and the geometric layout.
4. With centerless grinding, it is easy to realize automated production process.
